Ahh, it’s that time of year again. The time where all the piranhas in our industry come out to feed on the gullible, good-intentioned consumers looking to make changes for the New Year.

I believe I work in one of the most unprofessional, dishonest, and downright fraudulent industries on the planet. The amount of false promises and snake oil I’m already seeing in my feeds – all in the name of a buck – really saddens me. I don’t know what to do about it other than to use whatever small platform I have to “Take the Industry Back”. Taking Back the Industry, Part 2: Exercise & Diet

This is my gym. It’s one of my favorite places and home to some of my favorite people. I am very proud of this gym.

Some estimated 23 Million people in this country will join a gym and/or start an exercise program this month. And by the end of the month, over half of those people will have already quit. Why?

Because after laying down their credit card at the nearest gym promising them a 30-day total body transformation and giving it their best effort, they find themselves burned out, not looking much different, and having lost much less weight then they expected or were promised.

Taking Back The Industry, Part 3: The Weight Loss

If you want to lose weight, you have to eat less food.

Shocking, right? You’d think by now, this would be common sense. But for some reason, this simple physiological fact continues to plague people. It continues to be ignored.

You see, there’s this stuff called science. Thermodynamics. Math. And there are certain tenants out there that aren’t up for debate any longer. We call those Laws. And the first Law you may remember from grade school is that energy cannot be created or destroyed.

Calories are energy. If you consume more energy (cals) than you use, then you will store said energy. Translation: you will gain weight. Do the opposite, and you will lose weight.
